FOSCO MARAINI, IL MIRAMONDO
By Marco Colli and Alberto Meroni
Documentary, 54 min, Switzerland / Italy, 2018
Fosco Maraini was an anthropologist, traveler, mountaineer, photographer. Of Swiss family, he was born in Florence and grew up among the Renaissance masterpieces. An invincible attraction pushed him, very young, to the South, to Sicily and to the East, to Tibet with the orientalist Giuseppe Tucci, to the peaks of the Karakorum mountains and to Japan where he was first teacher, then a prisoner of war. He married the painter Topazia Alliata, mother of his daughters: Dacia, Yuki and Toni. Fosco looked at everything trying to catch the essentials. With the writing and images of places, events, gestures, loves and prayers, he explored the world of ideas and emotions that deeply moves human beings.
